Marc Jacobs Collaborates with Minx

Last week I was on NBC New York Live commenting on the trend of top designers and celebs collaborating with mass retailers to reach new audiences.  Think perhaps one of the most highly anticipated launches of Fall – Missoni for Target.  Then, I saw this.  Marc Jacobs partnered with Minx nails to create a One Night Stand Collection. Obsessed!  There are five different patterns and while they remind me of the Sally Hansen Salon Effects Nail Strips (which you already know I'm obsessed with), they're Minx, which are done in salons too.  Instead of using heat like they do in salons to mold the foil to your nail, you just rub them on and file off  the excess.  The five patterns were taken from the Marc by Marc Jacobs' Fall 2011 collection.

I'm dying to get my hands on them, but they're only being given out to Saks customers on Fashion's Night Out as a gift with purchase.  I definitely think more designers will be collaborating with beauty brands to make more affordable little pieces of luxury.

Marc Jacob’s Lola Velvet Limited-Edition Eau de Parfum Spray Give Away!

Just like the right pair of shoes can take an outfit from day to night; the right scent can help you get noticed and be remembered. How? There are certain scents that are complete turn ons. “Pleasant aromas can actually stimulate parts of the brain directly connected to sexual desire,” says Alan Hirsch, MD, director of Chicago’s Smell and Taste Treatment and Research Foundation.

Marc Jacob’s Lola Velvet Limited-Edition Eau de Parfum, $68 has rich notes of vanilla, fuchsia peony, tonka bean and musks. There’s no doubt that scent has a strong connection to desire, but to top it off this limited-edition bottle is absolutely breath taking. The origional Lola bottle has been reinvented to match the beauty of the scent.

One lucky BSS reader will win a bottle of Marc Jacob’s Lola Velvet Limited-Editon Eau de Parfum Spray. Leave a comment about the sexiest place to spray perfume and a winner will be chosen at random on Sunday, November 7th.  Good luck!

Japanese Trio Crashes NYFW

Ever wanted to crash a fashion show during NYFW or better yet – how about the two best parties of the season?  Tom Ford and Marc Jacobs.  This Japanese trio figured out how, partied with A-listers like Sarah Jessica Parker and took NYFW by storm. Styled by Samantha Lim, fashion editor for Lookbooks.com, the girls sported Harajuku looks that even the strictest doormen didn't question.  To get into the coveted Tom Ford party, one of them pretended she was an editor of Vogue Japan, Mitsuko Watanabe.  Who's going to argue with that?  Once security realized the real Miss Watanabe was inside, they escorted the Lolitas out.  Do all Asians really look alike?

Rocking bustiers, tutus and platform boots from Lolli Popitt paired with dramatic false lashes that matched the colors of their airbrushed makeup done by makeup artist Dana James, the girls exuded confidence that no doorman would question.  It also helped that they didn't speak English very well.

Check out my video interview with them at the AHAlife fashion week party (which yes, they were invited to):

Best of Beauty at the Met Gala

Tonight's Metropolitan Museum Costume Institute Gala brought out fashion's finest to feature the museum's new exhibit, "American Woman: Fashioning A National Identity." Kate Moss showed up on the arm of Marc Jacobs, Anna Wintour, Tory Burch, Margherita Missoni, Kate Hudson, Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake all walked the red carpet amongst other notables.

Here are a few of BeautySweetSpot's Best of Beauty from the night (and they're all blonde!):

Known for keeping things simple, Claire Danes took it up a few notches tonight and worked the red carpet like never before.  By adding volume to her blowout and smoking out her eye she turned into a sex kitten.  Meow!

Kate Bosworth rocked old school Hollywood glam.  It was an appropriate look for the evening and made her stand out from the rest.

Pulling her hair back off of her face into a sleek updo allowed Blake Lively to show off her fresh face and radiant beauty.  She got it right by highlighting the inner corners of her eyes with white shadow, layering black mascara and adding a pop of color with a fuchsia lip.

Nailing in the Nude

Among this season’s prettiest and most attainable runway trends comes in the form of a tiny glass bottle containing a liquid in a lovely, modest shade: nude nail polish.  Marc Jacobs and Michael Kors both had their models sport nude nails on the catwalk.  For quite a while now, we have loved our vernis to make a statement, and to make it loud and clear. But perhaps a more subtle approach would better suit the more mature and refined looks coming down the runway as of recent, from vamp to nautical to safari.  After all, the bold nail does sometimes end up dictating our outfits (what really matches with shimmery aqua nail polish?).

The nude nail gives you the advantage of looking put together and polished (pun intended!).  It doesn’t scream, “Look over here!” Rather, it whispers, “…but even if you do, I’m prepared!”  There are a variety of shades that you can experiment with, from sheer pinks and flesh tones to ivories and peaches.  Even clear polish, light grays, or naked and beautifully buffed nails are fair game. Any of these options will be certain to give you a grown-up finish and let the true you shine through. So ladies, lacquer up and tone it down!

Sample Sale Craze

If you're anything like me you're signed up for all of the hottest online sample sales like HauteLook, RueLaLa, TheFairest, and so on. Everyday I browse each the sites to check which sales are going on, constantly hitting the refresh button determined to steal the Marc Jacobs dress out of someone else's cart.  In the end, I normally make out with a few sweet deals, but getting them is nothing but a hassle.  That was until I was introduced to MyNines.

MyNines is a new site that's combining all of the hottest sample sale sites in fashion, beauty, travel and wine in one place so you don't need to jump from site to site.  It's intense enough trying to fight over an item on one site let alone battling on many!  You can search for items you're looking for and each sale lasts 72 hours.

I'm so used to looking at fashion and beauty sample sales that I found the travel sales on MyNines very cool. It's a great place to go if you're booking a vacation to look for a room.  You may get more for your money if you go through a sample sale site than booking directly through the hotel.  Talk about an upgrade!
