You might not believe this when I tell you, but I was actually dragged to the Tony Robbins Unleash The Power Within seminar by Joe. Joe’s been a fan of his for a little while now. He frequently listens to his podcast, which he introduced me to, and has read some of his books. While I’m very into self improvement, I found Tony to have a bit too much masculine energy for me. As a spiritual person, I always appreciated the tone of people like Gabby Bernstein, Marianne Williamson and Oprah. That’s who I am. That’s who I resonate with.
If you’ve been following me on Instagram, then you already saw the new addition to our family, Jimi! We rescued him at 11-weeks old from a shelter in CT, who rescued him from a kill shelter in South Carolina. He’s mostly black lab, but also a mix of terrier and pit. To say we love him is an understatement!

If I've learned anything throughout these past couple of weeks it's that the five stages of grief (denial, anger, bargaining, acceptance and depression) aren't linear. I thought I would go through each stage one at a time and then see the light at the end of the tunnel. Taking care of my first foster kitten, who was seven weeks when I got him, had a cold and was very weak, has been a reason to get out of bed and he’s looking for a forever home.

I can't tell you how many times I've been asked about meditation and people say, "I could never do it, because I could never erase my mind." Obviously! It's been insanely cold out this winter and I always provide the homeless in my area with what I can to keep them as warm as possible, but the thought of them being out in the cold on frigid days and nights never leaves my mind. I noticed my friend April shared the news that her sister Jamie Marie and her boyfriend Anthony Pierro assembled and handed out care packages to homeless individuals in freezing cold New York City earlier this year and was touched. I'm picking up the Soul Candy series again and to kick off the new year, I thought I'd tell you about a very special story that touched my life personally. I volunteer at the Liberty Humane Society in Jersey City and often find myself in the cattery cleaning cat cages and making friends with all of them as I go. Nothing makes me happier than helping at the shelter. Throughout the past few months, I took special notice to one cat in particular named Pepper who thanks to her age, spots of missing hair and cone around her neck, seemed what some would say, "unadoptable."

As I became more wellness minded in my personal life, my definition of beauty changed and content shifted to a place of raw authenticity that I'm proud to share with you. Isn't it funny how our calendars fill up like crazy during the holidays? It's not even Thanksgiving yet and the season is already in full swing, which for me provokes a great deal of anxiety. Already on our calendar are attending family dinners and parties, jazz concerts, the NYC Ballet's performance of The Nutcracker, and this year Joe and I are looking to move apartments in December too, which just adds to the craziness. With what feels like a suffocating calendar full of fun events, the only way I can truly enjoy the season is by focusing on the moment and calming my anxiety.
