Get the Look: Kate Hudson's Waves

mirror.co.uk

Kate Hudson looked stunning at the People magazine awards with her signature beach waves. Hairstylist David Babaii, created what he calls, the “classic Kate."  Want to get the look? You’re in luck, because we got the how to.

To start off, tousle your hair upside until dry to add volume. Once dry, mist a heat protectant spray evenly throughout. Then, grab a two inch section of hair and using the ghd Curve Classic Curling Iron, wind the hair around the iron while keeping the iron open. This technique creates a soft, bouncy wave. After you’ve curled your hair to that Kate Hudson effortless perfection, separate a few strands with your fingers and gently tousle your hair at the roots with your fingertips.

Stubborn flyaways ruining your look? Babaii says to use the iron to smooth at the root. Start at the root of the two inch section, run your iron through the first four inches of your hair two times. If you have thick hair, try doing smaller sections.

Get the Look: Kate Hudson's Hair at the Venice Film Festival

I've always been a huge fan of Kate Hudson, her chick flicks and effortless style.  This week at the Venice Film Festival she donned two fab hair looks for the premiere of her new thriller, The Reluctant Fundamentalist.  Her long time stylist and friend, David Babaii filled me in on how to recreate the looks... you know you want to!

How to Get Kate's Loose Waves

For a daytime press conference she kept her hair down in loose, boho waves.  Babaii parted her hair down the center and applied IT&LY Pure Style Mousse from the center of her hairs shaft to the ends then blew it dry with  a larget paddle brush focusing on smoothing the top.  For the ends, he used a round brush and wrapped sections around it to create loose waves as he dried.

How To Get Kate's Chignon

For the nighttime premiere, Babaii's inspiration was drawn from the Venetian Goddesses of Italy.  Kate's hair is naturally wavy so he just used his fingers as a comb to create definition in the style without messing up her texture.  The back is simply swept off of her shoulders into a simple, unstructured twist held together with bobby pins.

Glamour Women of the Year Awards Highlights

I may not have been an honoree, but I felt like one! Last night I was honored to attend the 20th anniversary of the Glamour Women of the Year Awards with the fabulous women of L'Oreal Paris.  I was psyched to attend because this years honorees included some of the biggest names including Julia Roberts, Cher, Donatella Versace and Fergie Ferg, but to my surprise I was more impacted by the honorees I've never heard of.

After being primped by the L'Oreal glam squad at the Technical Center and slipping into my alldressedup dress, I hit the red carpet with some of the best in beauty, Amber Katz, Polly Blitzer and Dana Oliver.

First, we received the updated media list that announced that Kate Hudson, Oprah, Hilary Swank, Kelly Osbourne, Janet Jackson, Katie Couric and Diane Sawyer were presenting.  Kate Hudson!  For those of you who consistently follow BeautySweetSpot you know she's my fave actress of all times – and besides Oprah... the only one who didn't walk the red carpet, but whatever, I'm over it.

The Red Carpet Scoop:

  • Julia Roberts came over to us to chat and called us "the cute girl corner!" Check out the video below!

  • Donatella Versace dished that her must have beauty product was mascara.  She was also loitering around the red carpet for quite some time.
  • I've always admired her abs, but Fergie's booty stole the show in her form fitting orange-red gown!
  • I'm not sure what happened, but Tory Burch looked minuscule, I'm talking 90 pounds tiny.
  • Janelle Monae confessed it takes 10 people to do her hair at a time!

The awards show was completely empowering and at the same time, a tear jerker (which I didn't expect).  Oprah presented Julia Roberts with an award and Kate Hudson presented to Fergie.  The room was full of energy and laughter, but at times, things took a serious note.

The award that affected me the most was given to Dr. Hawa Abdi, a Somali ob-gyn who, with her two daughters, also doctors, provide for almost 90,000 people who are affected by the countries violence.  Their courage is incredible and story was so touching.  Katie Couric appropriately presented the award and Glamour's Women of the Year Fund will be supporting Dr. Abdi's efforts.

Glamour also partnered with L'Oreal Paris in creating a special 20th anniversary Women of the Year nail polish, $6.50 in which $3 of every bottle bought will be donated to the fund.  The color is a perfect fall reddish mauve.

Women are Sexiest at Age 31

Confidence is sexy.  There’s no denying that, but research has proven that the confidence level of women at different ages can make or break their attractiveness. According to a study, women are most attractive at 31 years-old.  Why?  Because once they get just past the big 3-0, women mature more, rid their insecurities, are well established, still youthful and more confident than ever.  Ever hear of being grown and sexy?  A-listers like Claire Danes, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Kate Hudson prove the study to be true.

With cougars being the term used to describe women 40+ who showcase sexiness and confidence, of course researchers have named the 31-year old set: puma is the term they use.  Pumas  take good care of themselves physically and mentally whether in a relationship or not.  In a survey of 2,000 men and women, 70 percent agreed that confidence was the key factor of attractiveness followed by physical beauty and sense of style.

I'm not a puma yet, but at least I know I have something to look forward to!  What do you think?  Do you agree?

Celebrity Summer Trends

Nicole Richie is absolute favorite A-Lister to date because I love her style, but then there's Kate Hudson who always looks effortlessly chic.  I always look to the runways and celebs to seek out the latest trends and am lucky enough to get the inside scoop for BeautySweetSpot. Allow me to fill you in on some of the latest celebrity inspired trends for the summer season. The Smokey Eye

I've seen this look backstage at New York Fashion Week and on celebs at red carpet events all over the world.  I like to rock it on Friday nights out in the city and finally conquered it with CoverGirl's Smokey ShadowBlast. On one end it has a color for your base shadow and the other has a matching shade for your liner and crease.  I simply apply it and smudge it with my fingers.

Dewy Skin

Glowing, bronzed skin is definitely in (as long as you achieve it the safe way), but you need to get the natural dewy look, which can be hard for those with skin care problems like acne. Starletts like Katy Perry and Avril Lavigne love Proactiv because it's been the number one acne treatment system for the past 15 years.  The three-step system targets, clears and prevents acne.  Once you have clear skin, you can achieve that dewy complexion!

Tight Body

Those white skinny jeans don't look good on everyone!  If you want to rock this summer's latest trends, but are feeling a little less than body confident you can use every celebrities secret weapon, Hanes Smooth Illusions. The Waist Smoother automatically sucks in your stomach, hips and thighs (where we need help most) and are only $15 in the hosiery section of any department store.  Compared to other shape wear I've seen, that's a bargain!

Best of Beauty at the Met Gala

Tonight's Metropolitan Museum Costume Institute Gala brought out fashion's finest to feature the museum's new exhibit, "American Woman: Fashioning A National Identity." Kate Moss showed up on the arm of Marc Jacobs, Anna Wintour, Tory Burch, Margherita Missoni, Kate Hudson, Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake all walked the red carpet amongst other notables.

Here are a few of BeautySweetSpot's Best of Beauty from the night (and they're all blonde!):

Known for keeping things simple, Claire Danes took it up a few notches tonight and worked the red carpet like never before.  By adding volume to her blowout and smoking out her eye she turned into a sex kitten.  Meow!

Kate Bosworth rocked old school Hollywood glam.  It was an appropriate look for the evening and made her stand out from the rest.

Pulling her hair back off of her face into a sleek updo allowed Blake Lively to show off her fresh face and radiant beauty.  She got it right by highlighting the inner corners of her eyes with white shadow, layering black mascara and adding a pop of color with a fuchsia lip.

Confessions of A Speed Dater

Last night I attended Purple Lab NYC's Find A Luvah Speed Dating Event at the W in Hoboken.  Having never gone to a speed dating event before, I found myself partially inspired by Creatrix, Karen Robinovitz's serial dating story and by Kate Hudson's role in my favorite movie, "How to Loose A Guy in Ten Days."  Therefore, I attended the event as a speed dater/reporter in disguise.

Karen went on over 149 dates before meeting her luvah, Todd, and created this event for singles hoping it would help them speed up the process by having over 500 people in one place, and each date lasting only three minutes. Kate Hudson, or Andy Anderson in the movie, was challenged to date a guy (Matthew McConaughey) for ten days and do all of the what not to do's to drive him away.

With the support of some of my single girlfriends who I dragged along with me, I put on my game face and tried to find a luvah like Karen for some of the dates, acting like myself and really enjoying the process and for others, I pulled a 180 and did a different dating faux paus for each to see how the guy would react.

Here's what happened:

Victim 1: I kept having eye sex with the guy behind him.

His reaction: He ignored it at first and kept up with the conversation, then turned around to see what I was looking at and looked back at me and said, "Do you know him?"  I said, "Not yet."  I couldn't help but laugh.  He did not take down my speed dating number.

Victim 2: I told him I believed we were meant to be because our speed dating numbers were very close to each other, asked him his sign, told him it went with mine and that I could already tell we belonged together.

His reaction: For starters, he didn't take down my number at the end of the three minutes, which means he wasn't interested.  He told me he had no idea what his sign meant and asked me if I was "some kind of spiritual person or something."  He played along with me, answered my questions, but I thought it was really interesting when he told me he like planets....

Victim 3: I told him I wanted to get married and have tons of babies as soon as possible.

His reaction: His eyebrows rose and he smiled.  He told me he lived in Hoboken and worked in the city then asked me what I did.  I told him and tried to steer the conversation back to wanting to have a family. He completely ignored the statement.  He did not take down my number.

Victim 4: I repeated everything he said.

His reaction:  He actually wrote down my number!  I'm not sure if he'll really try to connect with me or not, but he pretended he was interested after our date.  At first he just thought I wanted him to answer the questions he was asking me first, but then when I would repeat his answers he couldn't start laughing.  He had a great sense of humor.

Victim 5: I gave one word answers and didn't say much.

His reaction: "Do you have anything to say? We only have three minutes."  He was a little shocked and frustrated, then started rattling out questions for me to answer on rapid fire.  I just stared at him shaking my head, still giving very little.  He also, didn't take down my speed dating number.

Remember, these all happened within three minutes each!  And... just for the record, yes, I did meet some very cute guys who I do hope to see again! ;)  Purple Lab NYC launched their new Luvah lip gloss that's a double plumper with a 3D glossy effect.  Soon to be available on HSN starting Feb. 18th so tune in!

2010 Golden Globes Beauty Awards

Even though all of the Golden Globes nominees and presenters strutted their stilettos through puddles and found themselves battling umbrellas, most of them managed to light up the red carpet tonight.  After watching E!'s pre-show coverage of the highly anticipated red carpet arrivals and interviews I came up with BeautySweetSpot's 2010 Golden Globe Beauty Awards.

Here are the top 5 best overall hair and makeup:

Olivia Wilde of House, which was nominated for Best Drama, wore a sparkling black Gucci gown with a deep plunging neckline that flattered her sexy bod in a classy way.  Striking jet black eye liner helped to create a cat eye effect with smudged out dark shadow.  She got it right by keeping her lips and cheeks to a minimum.

Fergie of Nine, which was up for five nominations!  The singer/actress showed up with husband Josh Duhamel, wearing an elegant lilac floor length dress. Love her brunette locks, and I have to be honest, I don't always think she's a looker, but tonight, she got it right.

Kate Hudson of Nine always looks effortlessly chic.  I was more into her hair and makeup then her Marchesa gown.  The soft updo paired with pearl tassel earrings looked stunning on Kate.

January Jones of Mad Men rocked the red lip and she got it right.  Keeping her eye makeup to a minimum and not letting accessories take away from the look.  Never mind pairing it with a chic updo and black satin headband. Love.

Penelope Cruz, of Nine donned a Giorgio Armani Prive black mermaid gown on the red carpet.  Her curls are very Hollywood, skin is glowing and makeup shades compliment her skin and hair color.

Which look is your favorite?  Comment below and let me know.
