Get the Look: Beyonce's Neon Mani in "Blow"

This just in – Beyonce's long time manicurist, Lisa Logan, revealed what she used on Bey's nails on set for her video, Blow.  When the rollerskating rink turns into an ultimate '80's party, her nails pop neon yellow.  Want the look?  Lisa used Ciate's Corrupted Neon Manicure Kit in Megaphone. Sure, leave it up to Bey to drop a full album overnight, but leave it up to Lisa to match her tips to her lips and keep it on the DL.  In case you haven't seen it yet, check out the video below.

Destiny's Child Hairstylist, Tippi Shorter, Talks Game Day Prep

Over the weekend I saw one of my favorite hairstylists, Tippi Shorter, tweet that she was working at the Super Bowl.  To be exact, she said, "Is it wrong to be working at the Super Bowl tomorrow and not know who's playing?"  This only meant one thing.  She was either working on Beyonce, a member of Destiny's Child, J Hud or Alicia Keys.  I reached out to her immediately and got the scoop, not only on how she made Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland's hair so straight and shiny, but also on what it was like backstage before the big reunion! What was the vibe like behind the scenes as you prepped Kelly and Michelle for their Super Bowl half time show?

They are true professionals and able to jump into action when needed, so they were their usual fun selves.  It was all hair and makeup talk.

Who did you work with to collaborate on their look?

I spoke to both Kelly and Michelle to find out what they were thinking.  They then trusted me to deliver my own touch to their idea.

Were their leather costumes part of the inspiration behind their sleek strands?

Yes, absolutely.

What's their natural hair texture like and how much prep work went into achieving their straight hair?

Both of the ladies are chemical free, so it makes it easier for me to create a sleek look with body. We worked with a lot of color, so that was time consuming.

What key products were used?

I used the Pantene Truly Natural Shampoo and Conditioner and the Aveda Brilliant for shine and the Control Force Spray for hold.

Can you paint the picture of the backstage scene before they performed?

The three ladies prayed and took the stage for an amazing performance.

A New Wave in Hair Accessories: Crystal, Tinsel and Feathers

The words "hair accessory" are taking on a whole new meaning.  Inspired by some of our favorite rockstars creative hair 'do's , Rihanna, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry, we can now experiment with our locks in brand new ways.  Great Lengths recently introduced Swarovski Crystal Extensions and feather and tinsel hair extensions are also all the rage. "Women are seeing celebrities experiment with their hair and think it's beautiful and attainable," commented Jan Marie Marteca of the Ted Gibson Salon.  "They're going to start to embrace everything from pastel pink highlighted extensions to pops of tinsel."

The Swarovski crystal extensions last as long as regular Great Length extensions (about three to four months) and are bonded to your hair.  I first saw the feather hair extension while at the Sundance Film festival and think it looks best when the feather is the same tone as your hair.  For instance, if you have brown hair, go with a brown feather so it blends nicely and acts as an accent and doesn't look cheesy.

Beyonce sported gold tinsel at the Grammys this year and Jan spotted tinsel extensions at this year's Hair Show. They're finely knotted around a few strands of your hair and last a few weeks.  The accent may look cute for a special occasion (Grammys anyone?).
