How We Made Over Our Bedroom

Comfort and tranquility took center stage.

Joe and I recently moved uptown in Hoboken and decided it was finally time to get some new furniture and upgrade from our queen to a king sized bed.   We wanted our bedroom to be a place of minimalism in order to create a peaceful environment.  Here's how we decorated so far.

Keeping the colors clean, we painted the walls Beacon Gray from Benjamin Moore and included soft ivory and white throughout.  Our bedding is from West Elm, the Ripple Texture Duvet Cover and shag rug is from Overstock.  Since the sunlight pours in, I still want to get a few plants to add color and personality to the space.

We found low profile furniture at CB2 that's simple, yet modern and topped the bed frame with the most popular Casper mattress.   I was skeptical at first about ordering a Casper since I didn't try it out for myself and let's be honest, it comes in a box, but we have friends and family members who highly recommended it.  Plus, there's a 100 day trial period that allows for a full refund if we weren't happy with it.  Now, it's by far the most comfortable one we've ever slept in – and yes, that includes hotel beds.

On the day of our move, our king-sized Casper came tightly compressed in a box that could fit into the trunk of a car, easily popped out and began to inflate within seconds.  I was happy with it as soon as I threw myself onto it.  It's composed of four layers of high-density memory foam for balanced support so neither of us sink into pockets, which is nice.  Plus, shipping is free and they also have free same-day delivery in NYC, San Fransisco, Los Angeles and London.  If you're moving or looking for a new mattress, I recommend trying it out.

While we still have to get some plants and hang art on the walls, we're happy with the basics right now.  Once our new dresser arrives, there will be more to share.
