a lesson from Tony Robbins
I finally listened to Tony Robbins' podcast and it's just the pick-me-up I need to keep myself in check. Have you guys listened to it yet? I'm curious to hear your thoughts. This one was titled, "How to Rid Excuses and Meet Your Goals." Both my husband, Joe, and I found it informative and inspiring and appreciate the fact that he's a straight shooter. Here are his three steps to getting out of your own way.
He begins the podcast talking about how some people are leaders and others are followers all due to one ingredient – hunger. Anyone can have talents and connections, but whether you do or not, it's drive that will ultimately get you where you want to be. His philosophy – Change your story in order to change your life.
A shift in perspective is the most powerful tool to help you achieve your goals. Instead of harping on the excuses you say to yourself over and over (and there's a laundry list), rid the excuses and be honest with yourself. For example, if you've "failed" in the past and blamed it on lack of money, time, education or other resources, that's your real problem – resourcefulness. If you're hungry, you'll be able to find the resources and make things happen.
In order to become resourceful and meet your goals, there are a few things to consider in order to rewire yourself and get rid of excuses.
Strategy
Take time on your strategy. If you don't have a concrete strategy in place or have the wrong strategy, you're almost guaranteed to fail. Think about dieting. If you hop on the fad diet bandwagon, you'll never achieve sustainable weight loss goals. Instead, you need to set yourself up for success by finding a concrete plan to work in the longterm.
Timing
Timing is everything! Ask yourself, is this the right time in my life to attempt to meet this goal? Will your strategy work right now?
Your Perspective
Robbins mentions that the stories we tell ourselves kill hunger. In order to be hungry for something, we need to face and embrace discomfort and change our story.
Whether you meet your goals or not isn't based on your ability, but your state of mind.
