7 Fresh Beauty Tips & Tricks

Jeannine-Morris

Recently, I had the privilege of attending a makeup master class hosted by Colgate Optic White with Celebrity Makeup Artist, Mario Dedivanovic. Mario's most notable clientele includes Kim Kardashian, Jennifer Lopez, Katy Perry, Priyanka Chopra, Chrissy Teigan and Christina Aguilera to name a few.  Mario disclosed a few of his favorite makeup tips and demoed looks to mirror some of this year's Oscar faves. Inspired by the master class, here are some new beauty tips and tricks.

Score a natural glow

Use a spot of petroleum jelly on the apple of your cheeks and on the center of your eyelids to give the appearance of a natural glow. For more va-va-voom glam, try Charlotte Tilbury’s Filmstar Bronze and Glow Palette- a highlighter and bronzer in one. The bronzer in this compact can even double as your eyeshadow.

Amp up your pout

Use a neutral lip pencil to fill in both your upper and bottom lip for greater definition. Next, apply lipstick and dab a touch of clear gloss in the center of your bottom lip to add dimension.

Make your teeth appear whiter

Smile! For an instant appearance of whiter teeth, use a red lipstick with a blue undertone.  For a more thorough and longer lasting effect, give oil pulling a try. Swish a tablespoon of organic coconut oil around for 2-3 minutes to improve overall oral health, sooth dryness and gradually make those pearly whites glisten.

Create a natural, smokey eye

The first go-to tip of Mario's is finding a concealer that is 5-6 shades darker than your skin tone and using it as your lid shadow. This creates that neutral, muted smokey that Mario gave Naomie Harris for Oscar night!

Prevent breakouts

This one might seem odd but, just as steam and hot water help to open the pores cold water does the opposite by sealing them. To reduce redness, rub an ice cube all over you face right after cleansing and before applying your skincare regimen. This will help to close the pores and prevent breakouts by making sure your makeup doesn't seep through and clog your skin.

Conceal under eyes strategically

Some of you may already know but just as a reminder, drawing a filled in upside down triangle under your eye with concealer is optimal for ditching the tired look and complimenting your foundation coverage. Then, blend, blend, blend

Mattify your favorite lipstick

If your first lip look is shiny and you want to make it matte, all you need do is apply some translucent powder lightly over the top shade and it will tone down the shimmer.
