I'm extremely grateful that part of my job as a beauty editor is to visit new salons and spas to test their hottest treatments. In New York City, it seems there's a new, clever concept salon opening up almost every month. Many of you ask for recommendations on where to go for hair cuts, facials, brows and more so I decided to write a guide of tried-and-true favorites. And yes, as a Hoboken girl now I can tell you, they're worth commuting for.
Two years ago, I had the opportunity to visit Canyon Ranch in Lenox, Massachusetts for the first time. My best friend, Adrienne, and I found the experience exceeded our expectations and we came back to NYC energized, restored and inspired. If you follow me or Canyon Ranch on Instagram (I took over their account), then you saw that I had the recent opportunity to go back for round two. With work out clothes and notebooks, Adrienne and I eagerly hopped in the car.
I was recently invited in for a treatment at a new spa, Bare Beauty NYC in the Flatiron. Walking into the building, I was intrigued as it was like a We Work space for the beauty industry. I walked past hair stylists, colorists and lash extension specialists before finding my way to the Bare Beauty suite – a perfectly set up, tiny room that only fit the necessities for Owner and Esthetician, Wynter Hutchinson. The facial, was one of the best I ever had.
After snowmobiling at Sundance, Joe and I spent the afternoon at the Serenity Spa at our hotel, the Westgate Part City Resort & Spa, which was such a treat! Attending the Sundance film festival is far from a vacation. The movie schedules are crazy and shuffling to and from events in the snow during the overcrowded week is exhausting so a time out was much appreciated. This was the first time I felt truly relaxed at a spa in a very long time.
When the Lush Spa first opened in NYC I was eager to try one of their most unique treatments, a Synethesia massage, and finally got around to taking the time out. My masseuse, Jay, first asked me to choose a word off of a chalk board and then a phrase off from bottles of oil that would dictate the unique experience. My choices –'enlightened' and 'free and playful.' The massage was a carefully coreographed heightening of the senses and may I also add, the best of my life.
Whether you're looking for a relaxing vacation, to make healthy changes in your life or to do a bit of soul searching, Canyon Ranch is the place to go. I had the opportunity to visit the prestigious wellness retreat located in Lenox, Massachusetts with my best friend, Adrienne, and couldn't wait to get home and write a review. Now, home in NYC, I'm still glowing and trying my hardest to maintain the positive energy and healthy lifestyle I embraced there the best I can.
