This morning on NBC's New York Live, I had the pleasure of working with Sara Gore and Lauren Scala. I originally pitched a general "New Beauty Gadgets" piece, but the producer (my friend Jess) gave me the challenge of finding new beauty gadgets that were all under $100. Before there was Instagram and SnapChat, there was WordPress and Blogger, and those were the platforms my friends and I used to begin to build beauty blogs, establish authority in the industry and share our passions with the world. All entrepreneurs, here we share advice on breaking into the industry and our first ever head shots.
This past year has been one of transformation: for myself personally and for my work. It's been almost seven years since I began my blog (first known as BeautySweetSpot) and I'm excited to allow this space to evolve as I grow in my personal life. But now, the social media game has changed everything and as I continue to try to keep up, there's only so much I'm willing to do to stay on top. As a journalist and fan of authenticity, I can promise you one thing – I will not sell out.
Each quarter Elle magazine features an "Elle Influential" and guess who's featured in October? Yours truly. I'm flattered and honored to have worked with a publication that I read, admire and respect in this way. In the middle of the summer, they Elle team came to my apartment to shoot the piece and I couldn't be happier with how it turned out. Last month I flew out to LA to film a segment on The Doctors featuring some of the hottest Instagram beauty trends. Thanks to Jessica Alba and Lady Gaga, lip masks are the new rage for plumping the lips and of course, I touched on strobing, but for a more practical day look.
